Moving checklist for Graz: what to do 8 weeks ahead
From giving notice to registering your new address – our timeline for a relaxed move.
8 weeks before
Give notice on your lease and check the notice period. Fix the moving date, request a moving company and plan time off for the day of the move.
4 weeks before
Arrange a no-parking zone for the moving van, get boxes and packing material and start sorting things out. Whatever is not coming along can be cleared and disposed of.
1 week before
Defrost the fridge and freezer, pack valuables and important documents separately, label boxes by room and set up mail forwarding with the post office.
On moving day
Note the meter readings in the old and the new home, keep the keys ready and show the movers what should be loaded first and last.
After the move
Register your new address within three days (Meldezettel) and tell your electricity, internet and insurance providers about the new address.
